Brother Stair's False Teaching on his Seven Women Theory
The following critique is from Brother Stair's radio program recorded May 15, 1999 and rebroadcast Jan. 20, 2000. Stair was commenting on a news bulletin about the Pope that was published May 13, 1999 in the Daily Telegraph, U.K.
(False teacher/prophet quotes are in purple and indented, my
comments are in plain text and scripture is in teal. False teachers rarely use scripture. I have only included those portions I intend to comment on.)
"The Pope was recognized as the overall Christian authority in the Christian World by the Anglican and Roman Catholic Commission yesterday, which described him as a gift to be received by all the Churches."
"Disagreement about the extent of the Pope's authority was one of the main causes of the English Reformation, in the 16th Century. Yes, that is when Martin Luther kicked out of his traces and the Great Reformation took place and the great Protestant ranks came into being. However, they kept so much of mama inside of them that they are now going back. The Bible tells us, Ladies and Gentlemen, that before Jesus comes, that seven women will take hold of one man."
Stair didn't give a reference for the verse, but it can be found in Isaiah 4:1:
And in that day seven women shall take hold of one man, . . . Isaiah 4:1a
Stair then proceeded to say:
"The implication in the scripture implies EMPHATICALLY that the seven main religions of the world will continue to operate within the confines of the number one religious authority recognized on the earth, the Vatican. They will all go to the Roman church, and they're doing it, and they will say, 'We will maintain our own tradional worships in our own houses. All we ask you to do, Mr. Pope, Mr. Vatican, is to recognize us as a legitimate religion, and that we all will find our way to God.' "
I don't approve of the way the world's churches are gathering together into an ecumenical entity either because they are buying right into the Antichrist's One World Religion prophecied for the endtimes. However, Stair is distorting scripture in order to villify the RCC in this instance, as can be easily discerned by checking the scripture like good Bereans. To get the real "implication" from scripture we need to read the whole verse of Isaiah 4:1 because Stair left out a few key words that will prove he is taking scripture out of context.
". . . We will eat our own food and provide our own clothes; only let us be called by your name. Take away our disgrace! " Isaish 4:1b
Does this sound like the RCC or any other religious organization of our day? No. But the way Stair just snatched a few words from Scritpure it sure seems to fit, doesn't it? However, if you move back to the beginning of Chapter 3 where Isaiah proclaims that Jerusalem and Judah are about to be destroyed then you get an entirely different picture of what is going on here.
What Isaiah is "actually" proclaiming here is the coming Babylonian captivity of Jerusalem/Israel and the fact that so many men would be killed that seven women would latch onto one man for fear of being disgraced because they were widows. Do single women experience disgrace in our day? No. But they did in the time of Isaiah. If you will check 2 Chronicles 36 you will see that this prophecy was actually fulfilled about 610 B.C.
"The Lord, the God of their fathers, sent word to them through his messengers again and again, because he had pity on his people and on his dwelling place. But they mocked God's messengers, despised his words and scoffed at his prophets until the wrath of the Lord was aroused against his people and there was no remedy. He brought up against them the king of the Babylonians, who killed their young men with the sword in the sanctuary, and spared neither young man nor young woman, old man or aged. God handed all of them over to Nebuchadnezzar." (2 Chronicles 36:15-21)
Therefore, Stair has grossly misinterpreted scripture with the intent to slander another church. I disagree with a lot of what the RCC stands for and teaches myself, but if our disapproval is not based on scripture than it's nothing but hot air.
Apparently Stair's followers are not even reading their Bibles, as he is speaking, otherwise they would know that he is not telling them the truth. This is very sad.
