Evangelical Leaders and Organizations Promoting Ecumenicalism

The following is a list of organizations involved in the ecumenical movement. The organizations are listed alphabetically and leaders by their last name. The information on this list was gathered from several articles (see below-the particular article is indicated via initials after each entry) or off their own individual web sites. This list is far from complete and is still in a rough draft form. More data will be included as it becomes available. Also see information on Ecumenicalism and how it is Unscriptural and destroying the Body of Christ.

A

AD 2000
An ecumenical evangelical movement
Requires acceptance of Roman Catholics, Orthodox Churches, and Liberal Protestants as PARTNERS in evangelism. The Charismatic movement, along with false teachings on the Holy Spirit and claims of new revelations from God, has been the major catalyst bringing liberal Protestants, Roman Catholics, Orthodox, Charismatics, Pentecostals and Evangelicals together in unscriptural fellowships and ministries. These unscriptural Pentecostal/charismatic teachings are now being promoted as "power evangelism" or the "Third Wave Movement" from such leaders Dr. Peter Wagner of Fuller Seminary and Dr. John Wimber founder of Vineyard Christian Fellowship.

AD 2000 United Prayer Track
Jack Dennison-served as Global Communications Coordinator of the AD 2000 & Beyond Movement.
Spiritual Mapping Division, headed by George Otis, Jr.
Coordinator is C. Peter Wagner who teaches a class on spiritual mapping at Fuller Theological Seminary.

AD 2000 Evangelism
A Roman Catholic evangelistic organization
Headed by Tom Forrest and set up by Pope John Paul II.
Appears to be evangelical but repudiates the biblical Gospel of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and binds it's converts to sacramentalism and worship of Mary.

Dr. Joe C. Aldrich
President Multnomah School of the Bible
Endorses Jay Gary's book, "The Star of 2000-Our Journey Toward Hope, 1994 which quotes New Age writers, UN enthusiasts and other liberals, and promotes an alliance between all major religions and the UN.

Biola
Used to be fundamentalist and promoted Biblical evangelism but now promotes ecumenicalism

Dr. Bill Bright (with Paul Eschleman)
Campus Crusade for Christ
One of the chief promoters of ecumenical evangelism. When questioned about having Roman Catholics on his staff and on Campus Crusade witnessing teams (Athletes in Action), etc. he said, "I can work with anyone who calles Jesus 'Lord'."
Endorses Jay Gary's book, "The Star of 2000-Our Journey Toward Hope, 1994 which quotes New Age writers, UN enthusiasts and other liberals, and promotes an alliance between all major religions and the UN.

David Bryant
President of the Concerts of Prayer International

C

Jean Campbell
General Secretary of National Council of Churches
Claims to be an evalgelical.

Cell Church/City Church, etc.
It is claimed that churches in the NT were built on a cell structure, governed by leaders, upon leaders, etc. with one central authority--a man [similar to the RCC and the Pope]. However, if you study the NT church you will see that it was not designed to be governed by any earthly entitiy but by Christ himself through the Holy Spirit. Assemblies were autonomous and they only looked to the Apostles and the Scriptures for instruction [thus the claim that we need Apostles and Prophets today]. The cell church theory was invented by David Yongi Cho, of Korea.

Citi Reach International
Michael Steele of DAWN ministries is a board member of CitiReach International. Reading the "History of CitiReach International" on the CitiReach Home Page, brings up a very interesting array of words being used for evangelization, such as: "fanning the world wide flames," "revolution, " "spiritual tsunami, " " spiritual warfare, " " take," and " revolt. " [Did Christ, or Paul or any other Apostle use such terms in association with bringing others to Christ? No. However, these are the same kind of terms used in Dominion Theology, Kingdom Now, Manifest Sons of God and similar organizations.] Also this article points out CitiReach's association with DAWN ministries and DAWN's association with the World Evangelical Fellowship, Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization and the AD2000 & Beyond movment. Also if you take a look at CitiReach's reading list you will see it is a list that Hillary Clinton would be proud of.

Paul Cedar
Evangelical Free Church of America & Chairman of AD 2000 ICCL
International Chairman of the Lausanne Committtee for World Evangelization
AD 2000 International Coalition of Christian Leaders (ICCL)
Honorary Co-Chairmen: Billy Graham, Bill Bright, Luis Palau and Kyun Chik Han of Korea
The goals of it's members are as follows "All have a primary commitment to cooperate with other Christians in the vital ministry of world evangelization in the decade of the 90's. These International Coalition leaders share the vision of the AD 2000 and Beyond Movement" (Mission Frontiers Bulletin, July/August 1993).
Cedar endorses Jay Gary's book, "The Star of 2000-Our Journey Toward Hope, 1994 which quotes New Age writers, UN enthusiasts and other liberals, and promotes an alliance between all major religions and the UN.

They met with the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization, and the World Council of Churches (WCC) in Feb of 1989 in Stuttgart Germany to discuss world evangelism.
The article, "History of CitiReach International" on the CitiReach Home Page, points out CitiReach's association with DAWN ministries and DAWN's association with the World Evangelical Fellowship, Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization and the AD2000 & Beyond movment.
C. Peter Wagner is one of DAWN's supporters. Wagner heads the World Prayer Center (WPC) which is a spiritual mapping system with the intent of mapping all believers in the whole world. His organization is called the "Pentagon of Modern Christianity." He promotes such unscriptural Pentecostal/charismatic teachings as "power evangelism" and the "Third Wave Movement." Wagner also approves of the RCC being considered a Chrsitian organization. Wagner is also closely affiliated with Vineyard Christian Fellowship--John Wimber (Tornoto "Blessing"). Wagner and his associate, Ted Haggard (a graduate of Oral Robert's University) run a School of the Prophets where they claim to be able to impart spiritual gifts to those who want to become part of the New Apostolic reformation. [Does God give out spiritual gifts or do men???] Wagner has served on many ecumenical ministries and organizations including the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization.

.

Fuller Theological Seminary
Founded by the late Dr. Charles E. Fuller who used to be a fundamentalist pastor, but now is one of the most influential and most dangerous seminaries in the world as it welcomes Roman Catholics, charismatics, Orthodox, and compromising evangelicals as well.

G

Jay Gary
Founded the Bimillennial Global Interaction Network (BEGIN) in 1991 designed to share goals and ideas of the AD 2000 movement.
Holds a strategic postion in the AD 2000 Movement because of the influence of his book:
"The Star of 2000-Our Journey Toward Hope, 1994.
This book contains a multitude of scriptural errors and quotes New Age writers as well as United Nations enthusiasts and liberals from both Protestantism and Roman Catholicsm. He promotes the writing of Robert Muller (Former Assistant Secretary of the UN) who says "My great personal dream is to get a tremendous alliance between all major religions and the UN." Gary's books lists organizations using AD 2000 as a springboard to further their own agendas. Gary's book was endorsed by the following top evangelical leaders: Bill Bright and Paul Eschleman (Campus Crusade), David Bryant (President of the Concerts of Prayer International), Dr. Joe C. Aldrich (President Multnomah School of the Bible), Dr. E. Brandt Gustavson (National Religious Broadcasters), Dr. David B. Barrett (Editor, World Christian Encyclopedia), Dr. Joe A. Harding (Vision 2000), United Methodist Church, John Dawson (Youth With a Mission), Dr. Paul Cedar (Evangelical Free Church of America) and Fr. Tom Forrest, C.Ss.R (head of the Roman Catholic Evangelization 2000 program).

Gathering of the Nations
Headed by C. Peter Wagner. The Gathering of the Nations is a meeting designed to make God take authority over demonic forces in whichever nation the meeting is held, and to proclaim spiritual warfare over territorial spirits. According to Al Dager, "These meetings are nothing more than a hyper-Chraismatic display of unbridled emotion and unbiblical teaching passing itself off as spiritual warfare." People are slain in the spirit, learn native dances (including belly dancing), etc. The leadership of this group distorts the Abrahamic Covenent so they can claim that the Jews failed at Missions, thus supposedly supporting their god given mandate of world wide missions, however, it wasn't until Christ that we were given the mandate to "go ye into all the world". They also proclaim Identificational Repentance, i.e., to stand in the gap as a substitute for a corporate people and seek forgiveness for their "sins" [is this scriptural?] in order to nullify so-called "Generational Curses." Basically this movement is Manifest Sons of God theology.

Global Consultation on World Evangelization by AD 2000 and Beyond (GCOWE).
Thomas Wang is Chairman of the consultation's steering committee (Wang is also international director of the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization).
First launched in Singapore Jan 1989 with the goal to bring the "gospel" to all people by the year 2000.
They promote an openness to missions leaders from a wide range of Christian traditions and a focus on world evangelization.
(Similar goals to AD 2000 ICCL)
"Many national, international and denominational differences willingly were set aside as global mission leaders united to pray, plan and expand their vision" (World Vision's MARC Newsletter, Sept. 1995).

Global Harvest Ministries.
The ministry of C. Peter Wagner. http://www.wpccs.org/
[from the GHM website:] Global Harvest Ministries is dedicated to the goal of global evangelization. Dr. Peter Wagner says, "We see our task as getting people in touch with one another through dynamic, human web networks for the purpose of waging effective spiritual warfare." It will collect and compile requests from every continent as national prayer centers report what God is doing and how His people ought to pray. There is a also a great anointing released when God's people leave their familiar settings [orthodox bible believing church] and come together for worship, prayer, vanguard teaching and SPIRITUAL IMPARTATION. [come get your spiritual gift] Our goal is to see each member of the Body of Christ fully empowered and functioning in their giftings and callings. Some of their conference titles:
The Future War of the Church: Moving the Army of God to the Frontline
Apostolic Church Arising: Building the Church of the 21st Century
Power Evangelism: Restoring the Evangelistic Gift to the Body of Christ
Apostolic conferences bring together apostolic leaders, pastors, and their teams to hear the new and creative strategies the Holy Spirit is revealing to reach the nations of the world.
Prophets pave the way for apostles to execute God's plan, and Prophetic conferences provide opportunities for the prophetic call on individual lives to be activated. Many prophetic streams gather for these powerful convocations.
[All of the above are Dominionist/Third Wave/Five-Fold Ministry teachings] C. Peter Wagner also is head of the National Prayer Network (gathering organizations dedicated to prayer--see World Prayer Center).

Dr. Billy Graham
Heads the World Congress on Evangelism/The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. At each conference Billy encourages evangelicals to reject Biblical separation and accept ecumenicalism. Graham is one of the chief promoters of ecumenical evangelism. Roman Catholic Cardinals, bishops and priests serve on his sponsoring committies and he uses Roman Catholic counselors in his crusades and sends new converts back to the RCC. Billy works closely with the leaders of the WCC and other ecumenical organizations.

Michael Green
Prominent religious leader, evangelical speaker, author & theological professor.
Green wrote the book, "The Futures of Christianity" he stated "the glad acceptance of Christ as Savior and Lord, as the One who can bring us to the Father as no other teacher can, is entirely compatible with a willingness to learn from other teachers. In the past Christians Gladly learned from Greek philosophers and Roman poets. In our time Christians can be taught about community life under God by Jews, about devotion to God by Muslims or Hindus, about detachment from the passions by Buddhists, about the sacredness of nature by animists, and about goodness by atheists."
Green was a major contributor to Billy Graham's International Conference for Itinerant Evangelists in Amsterdam, Holland, 1983 where he stated "Don't talk about the new birth, talk about liberation . . . Identify with and befriend secular society. Become one with them. Read their materials. Get out of our Christian ghetto mentality. . . ." Green also spoke at the North American Congress on the Holy Spirit and World evangelization, in New Orleans, Lousiana in 1987 (a meeting sponsored by Charismatics and Roman Catholics).

H

Franklin Hall
Hall was an early leader of the Manifest Sons of God movement. He taught that the Manchild Company would rule the earth and be filled with the Glory of God. He believed gold and silver dustings were the attainment of Immortal Substance and these dustings reportedly occured at his meetings. Hall was heavily involved in occult activity and was associated with Kathryn Kuhlman. He believed Christians could attain immortality through stages of spiritual growth, which included involvement with psycho-spiritual exercises, UFOs, levitation, etc.: "when God's word is completely acted upon and complied with, [it] will result in bringing about the real gushers and torrents of the long, past due, rain of righteousness, a rain of immortality upon the earth that so many prophets have written about and portrayed in their prophecies" (from his book The Return of Immortality).[DoD]

Dr. Joe A. Harding

Transformations or Deception?
Also read Making War in the Heavenlies by Bill Randles which shows why Spiritual Warfare, the way Otis presents is, is unscriptural.

W

Dr. C. Peter Wagner
Associated with Fuller Seminary. He is promoting unscriptural Pentecostal/charismatic teachings such as "power evangelism" or the "Third Wave Movement" along with the AD 2000 movement. Wagner has stated re the RCC: "Traditionally, the message of the Gospel in Latin America has appealed to the working class. But changes have begun to take place, and many middle and upper-class people are now opening their hearts to Jesus Christ. Some of this is happening through the Catholic charismatic movement." (C. Peter Wagner, "Look at What God's Doing!," an excerpt from "On the crest of the Wave ", Ventura, CA: Regal Books, 1983). The World Prayer Center (WPC) is headed by C. Peter Wagner, Ted Haggard and Chuck Pierce. Charisma magazine calls them "God's Generals". WPC is touted as the "Pentagon of Modern Christianity," "God's Air Command" and other militaristic terms. The WPC was built, mainly through contributions of Pastor Ted Haggard's New Life Church. WPC is an affiliate of Global Harvest Ministries, headed by C. Peter Wagner in Colorado Springs Colorado. [this group expouses a dominionist agenda which has spread from U.S. Center for World Missions in Pasadena, Calif to WPC].
Their facility contains a spiritual mapping system designed to compile the largest collection of data ever assembled on evangelization and evangelists and Christians in general. They claim that their spiritual mapping is designed to only keep data on the beliefs of people in different geographic regions, however their real purpose is to disseminate information so as to engage in unbiblical forms of "spiritual warfare."
They not only have a database that determines the spiritual climate of nations but also states, cities and individual residences, i.e., a spiritual census so that every home in the US and elsewhere will have it's beliefs catalogues in the WPC's computers. They currently have 100,000 churches around the world linked to their database. C. Peter Wagner supports the assimilation of the RCC into evalgelistic groups.

Thomas Wang
Chairman of the steering committee for Global Consultation on World Evangelization by AD 2000 and Beyond (GCOWE).
(Wang is also international director of the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization).

Mareth Warren
Mareth Warren is an international speaker/teacher at seminars, conferences, and training centers for the Sentinal Group. She has traveled to 25 countries with Women's Aglow, YWAM, De Brug (in Eastern Europe and the Balkans), Vorming en Aktie (School of Worship and Drama in Holland) and Desertstream (Prayer, Church Planting, Training in the Middle East). She also serves on CINDY JACOB'S intercession team. Cindy Jacobs is a self proclaimed prophetess, she is connected to the C. Peter Wagner organization, the World Prayer Center (see below), along with Kilpatrick.

Dr. John Wimber
Founder of Vineyard Christian Fellowship
Promotes unscriptural Pentecostal/charismatic teachings such as "power evangelism" or the "Third Wave Movement"and also the AD 2000 movement. He believes the Gospel is ineffective without signs and wonders. Third Wave supports Toronto "Blessing" and Brownsville. They are the ones who try to tell you that "you're missing out on a great move of God if you don't get involved with it," and tell you "don't oppose it--it MIGHT be of God." The only problem there is no scriptural support for any of this. And lets not forget their latest new "theory" -- cross-pollination--Taking the transferable "anointing" back to their own churches and "cross-pollinating" through the laying on of hands--[Translation: imparting a demonic spirit by touching another].
Some good articles exposing this heresy are Cross-Pollination and Prepared for the Slaughter: The Disarming of the Church by John Green. Several more articles on The Newest Deceptions of the Third Wave (Gold, diamonds, feathers, etc) can be found at Deception in the Church

Ralph D. Winter
Chief promoter of both AD 2000 and GCOWE.
General Director of the US Center for World Mission.
Attended the Global Consultation on World Evangelization by AD 2000 and Beyond (GCOWE) and was instrumental in maintaining contact between members and thus furthering the movement.
Wrote the book Thy Kingdom Come (a historical record of world evangelization that led to the AD 2000 movement). Winter promotes group decisions for Christ, and refusing to baptize new "believers" until they go out and gather more of their people until there are several dozen so they won't feel "ostracised."

Working Group of a Kaleidoscopic Global Action Plan (KGAP).
(formally commissioned by the Lausanne GCOWE 2000 conveners in Sept 1988)
and then the: Kaleidoscopic Global Action Plan. Their "Plan" consists of 109 proposals for overcoming present barriers to world evangelization. One of these goals is based on the New Age philosophy of Unity in diversity: #16. "pursue systematic region-by-region dialogue with the world's organized atheists, agnostics, non-believers, and nonreligious, as well as with the great non-Christian world religions and newer cults and relious movement, so that all may GENUINELY UNDERSTAND each other's position and the full measure of Christ may be fully understood in all these contexts by 2000."
Where does scripture say we are to bring false religious sytems together for understanding? Can athiests "genuinely"understand Christians unless they are led by the Holy Spirit? Many of the goals of KGAP would involve God's people joining hands with such un-Christian groups as the UN (see Jay Gary's involvement w UN). All members are widely-experienced published theologians, missiologists or church or mission executives:
David B. Barrett, Jay E. Gary--ecumenical proponent of the UN who holds New Age beliefs., H. Vinson Syunan--ecumenical charismatic, Todd M. Johnson, Leslie Brierley, Patrick J. Johnstone, Gary K. Clark, John S. Mbiti --works with Global Mapping International (evangelization)., Tom Forrest CSsR --Roman Catholic Priest involved in ecumenicalism, James W. Reapsome, V. David Garrison
Lamin Sanneh, Manuel J. Gaxiola
(all of the above are ecumenical toward the Vatican and/or liberal "Christianity")
KGAP is also heavily inflenced with the charismatic "signs and wonders" movement (see proposals #109, 110 and 112 influenced by John Wimber--Vineyard movement --see vineyard report).

World Congress on Evangelism
Billy Graham Evangelistic Association
At each conference Billy encourages evangelicals to reject Biblical separation and accept ecumenicalism.
1966 in Berlin, West Germany--Billy said "One Race, One Gospel, One Task"
1974 Lausanne Switzerland
1983 and 1986 in Amsterday
1989 in Lausanne II in Manila.

World Christian Movement (WCM)
It was formed out of the Lausanne movement.
They believe that Christ cannot return until the Church rules the nations. Ralph D. Winter: "missions is essentially the restoration of God's kingdom and rule and power on this earth. It involves the reestablishment of His glory, of His honor and His control of things..." [This is Dominionist Theology]
They believe in winning people groups for Christ, instead of individuals, i.e., whole groups of peoples, [i.e., all members of a native tribe] must come together to [coerced into] accept Christ. Donald McGavran, in his book The Bridges of God states, "peoples, and not merely individuals, become Christians. . . . A change of religion involves a community change. . . . This may be called a chain reaction, each decision sets off others . . . When conditions are right, not merely each sub-group, but the entire group concerned decides together." [is this scriptural? are these groups being led by the Holy Spirit or is it group dynamics in operation here? Did Jesus say "make all nations his disciples" or " make disciples of all nations"?]
They believe that all men are "worth" the sacrifice of the Son of God, whereas scripture tells us "while we were YET sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8) i.e., We were alienated from God, worthy of death and destruction, not worthy of His dying for us. This is a neo-evangelical gospel and is the root of dominion theology.
Many of the organizations belonging to WCM are youth oriented. TeenMania is on of their charismatic outreach groups known for their "Acquire the Fire" conventions headed by Ron Luce, which garners emotion-driven decisions for Christ.

World Council of Churches (WCC)
General Secretary, Conrad Raiser
They are tolerant to, and seek unity with, all faiths and contextualize the Gospel, i.e., water it down till it's palatable enough for anybody to accept it.

World Prayer Center (WPC)
WPC is headed by C.
Accaording to the WPC web site they are "a communications center, serving the Church throughout the world by linking prayer requests, practical needs, and reporting evangelistic breakthoughs."
Their facility, located in Colorado Springs, includes the latest telecommunications system intended to link believers throught the world and to mobilize believers in effective global intercessory prayer. Their "stated" purpose is to wage spiritual warfare against principalities and powers that control cities, states and nations and turn them to God. Wagner believes that united Christian prayer will be instrumental in detering demon activity and thus victory over the nations.
Their facility contains a spiritual mapping system designed to compile the largest collection of data ever assembled on evangelization. They claim that their spiritual mapping is designed to only keep data on the beliefs of people in different geographic regions, however their real purpose is to disseminate information so as to engage in unbiblical forms of "spiritual warfare." C. Peter Wagner has written a book called "Breaking Strongholds in your City" which instructs people on how to take an area for Christ through prayer. They not only have a database that determines the spiritual climate of nations but also states, cities and individual residences, i.e., a spiritual census so that every home in the US and elsewhere will have it's beliefs catalogues in the WPC's computers.
Their computers are linked to Global Mapping International (GMI) founded by Robert Waymire in 1983 on the campus of the US Center for World Mission which has since moved to Colorado Springs. It is their goal to link all 330,000 churches in North America to their databases and eventually all the churches in the whole world (they currently have 100,000 linked).
C. Peter Wagner has stated re the RCC: "Traditionally, the message of the Gospel in Latin America has appealed to the working class. The above statement and others like it effectively elimanates WPC's need to spiritually map RCC members.
